Bio-Cremation
Bio-Cremation, also known as Aquamation or Alkaline Hydrolysis, is a gentle and responsible alternative to fire cremation that allows you to honor the loss of your companion without harming the environment. Very Important Pet Mortuary was the first in the United States to offer bio-cremation for house pets. Bio-Cremation uses a water-based alkaline solution in replace of fire. This cutting-edge process mimics the way a body naturally decomposes in soil. It is nature’s method of decomposition, simply sped up.
The liquid solution utilized in Bio-Cremation is 95% water and 5% alkali. The alkalis used in this process are the same alkalis used in common cosmetic products, body washes, shaving creams, and even food preparation. By the end of the process, all alkali ingredients have been completely used; no traces remain in the water. Producing zero gaseous emissions, Bio-Cremation is the earth-friendliest way of honoring your beloved pet. Not only is it the ultimate substitution for fire cremation, it is also the ideal alternative to burial, which contributes to methane gas emissions.
At our facility, your pet is safely placed in a stainless steel cradle, which is then lowered into a stainless steel vessel. A gentle flow of warm water and alkali is used to accelerate the natural process of tissue hydrolysis. The end result is a completely clean solution of amino acids, sugars, nutrients, salts, and water. These are the organic byproducts of natural decomposition. This safe and sterile water solution is then returned to the ecosystem via composting. At the conclusion of this process, the only solid remains are bones. These bones are processed into ash that is practically identical to that produced by fire cremation. Bio-Cremated ash is lighter in color because it is clean and free of carbon-discoloration. Because Bio-Cremation is a much gentler process than fire cremation, you will receive approximately 20% more of your precious pet's remains, and only your pet's remains.
